Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Language Liberation

DEI Commitment

A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in our work, our workplace, and in all our actions and operations is essential and integral to advancing our mission and achieving our vision. Our commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion are rooted in a specific belief in the importance of language to human liberation.

Language plays a role in perpetuating — or dismantling — oppressive systems, unwelcoming social environments, and inequities. Torus embraces and fosters mutually transformative experiences of language and cultural exchange. That's how we contribute to honoring diversity, increasing equity, and creating a more culturally inclusive society.

We firmly believe that domination of a particular language limits human potential. Everyone benefits from the diversity, equity, and inclusion of language.

Torus upholds the following principles and expectations in order to advance and expand diversity, equity and inclusion in our work, our workplace, and in all our actions and operations.

  1. Explore underlying, unquestioned assumptions that create or sustain an exclusive environment.

  2. Embrace diverse peoples and experiences and foster a welcoming environment for all.

  3. Identify and dismantle barriers that create and sustain inequities.

  4. Challenge assumptions about what it takes to be a strong leader at our organization and who is well-positioned to provide leadership.

  5. Practice and encourage open and transparent communication in all interactions.

  6. Encourage a culture where oppressive policies, practices, and behavior are replaced with liberatory policies, practices, and behavior, while repairing and reconciling all negative impacts.
